If you suffered a permanent injury to your tongue, would you rather lose the ability to taste salty or sweet?

    Wow, that’s a tough one! The two go so well together, losing one would be like losing an eye…but overall, I’d have to go with sweet. Saltiness is essential to too many things to lose it.

    My first thought was to oust the salty, but I’ve settled on losing the sweet. Here’s why: salt is integral to so many foods, and so much flavor in complete meals. Sweet usually comes in the form of treats on the side or after a meal, something extraneous (although important!)

    I have a huge sweet tooth, but I still think salt would be the way to go. I would cry though.

    This is a bad Would You Rather… if everyone chooses the same thing, the choices were no good! I would nearly die without my sweets too but I realize after reading all the choices that salt is so important for so many flavors and foods.

    Here is to hoping none of us every encounter serious tongue injuries!

    Yeah, I’d have to go with losing sweet, too. But then, of course, I think about drippy summer peaches and perfect plum cakes and I despair a little. Oh right, it’s just a fantasy! Thank God. ;)
