Please excuse my lack of cooking, baking, writing, posting, communicating… I have been too busy eating other people’s food. Sending thanks for visiting Whipped.
After an intensely busy past month, I have been taking a little break from anything I can in order to recoup and rejuvenate. My Christmas break was spent eating other people’s cooking, enjoying Mini Whipped’s Christmas excitement, sledding and taking naps. This week, I am easing back into reality with a mixture of work balanced with family trips to favorite breakfast restaurants and an inaugural trip to the Shedd aquarium.
Thank you for visiting Whipped and I hope you will be patient with me as I do plan to turn the oven back on in the new year! In the meantime, I would like to send a gracious thank you for taking interest in my blog. I am giving away a $100 Williams-Sonoma gift card. To win, please leave a comment on this post. Please share… what was the yummiest food or drink you enjoyed this holiday season? The winner will be chosen at random and will be announced New Year’s Day!

When making my way from Austin to Boston, my plane was indefinitely delayed in St. Louis because of the Snowpocalypse on the east coast. Luckily, my favorite aunt and uncle are locals and also happen to be amazing cooks. My heaven? A glass (or 3) of really good Chablis enjoyed with my aunt’s homemade sweet greek bread, a salad comprised of local veggies, and my uncle’s twice-baked potatoes (with sour cream and blue cheese). A meal good enough to shake the layover blues.

Sounds like you are having a great holiday.
The best food item I had this holiday was our Christmas eve Turkey, the whole meal was amazing, but he 40 lb turkey our neighbors raised was the highlight of the event. It was as big on flavor as it was on size!
December 28th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
Drop sugar cookies: the added sour cream makes them super soft, chewy, and of course sugary and delicious. This was the first year I ventured away from the traditional sugar cookies and I’m so glad I did.
*A close runner up though, would have to be Horizon’s Organic Eggnog with a slash of Disaronno Amaretto liquor, so rich and tasty; the perfect way to end a holiday.

December 28th, 2010 at 4:36 pm
Every year we make my great-grandmother’s kolacky and rugelach cookies. They are tedious to make, but the results are amazing. To me they are best straight out of the oven with a nice cup of coffee or tea. The taste is slightly butter and they are filled with apricot, nut, prune or raspberry. It’s not Christmas for me without my fave cookies!
Glad you are enjoying your holiday! Happy New Year!
December 28th, 2010 at 4:37 pm
I married into a French-Canadian family a few years back, and this was the first year I came to really appreciate the Christmas Eve Tourtiere or Pork Pie.
Flaky crust, ground pork, a little bit of mashed potato for binding and, as in all French-Canadian cooking I’ve experienced, a whole lot of sage.
I enjoy it for its homey simplicity, its cultural importance to my husband’s family and how it makes the Christmas eve meal unique.
December 28th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
An Ecuadorian-style Christmas dinner! Roasted turkey with adobo spices, stuffing made from pork, chicken, & raisins, and a fruit cake that actually tasted wonderful!
December 28th, 2010 at 4:43 pm

December 28th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
I had my favorite holiday dessert – my mom’s rice pudding with raspberry sauce. It’s more like whipped cream with almond flavoring than a traditional rice pudding. We also had turkey and ham which were also really delicious.

We made tamales from scratch this year, delicious!
December 28th, 2010 at 4:58 pm

December 28th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
A fruit tart my sister made. The raspberries were surprisingly sweet, and the almond crust and orange custard all worked together great. I’m glad to hear you had a fun break, too, and I hope you can cruise into the new year!

December 28th, 2010 at 6:47 pm

I can’t believe it, but it was my favorite!
December 28th, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Angel food cake cookies!! Nom nom nom!
December 28th, 2010 at 8:36 pm
Strangely, and somewhat embarrassingly, the yummiest and most requested recipe/dish this season was scalloped corn. It’s basically a can of creamed corn, a can of whole kernal corn, Jiffy corn muffin mix with butter, sour cream, eggs, vanilla, and sugar thrown in and baked for 45 mins – comes out a lot like the Chevy’s corn side dish. It can barely be called cooking, but what can I say…
December 28th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
This year I made pozole for the first time. It`s a traditional mexican soup that is usually made for the holidays or special ocasions. It took the whole day make it, and it was soooooo good! : D
December 28th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
I made croissants for the first time this year.

I think I will save this one for the holidays. But, I will want to make them every day until Christmas comes again.
December 28th, 2010 at 8:45 pm
Your Super Moist Pumpkin Buttermilk Bundt Cake. I made it twice and everyone LOVED it! It was gone within minutes of the first slice, both times.
December 28th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
My brother-in-law is still raving about the prime rib I served for Christmas, but I thought that the ebelskivers with the homemade vanilla almond raspberry jam were better.
December 28th, 2010 at 8:47 pm
I made some chess bars as a gift for a friend and then I brought them to a party that I went to. I kept some of the ones that were the end pieces at my house. I had one as a little treat for dessert the other day and boy were they pretty tasty.

December 29th, 2010 at 5:58 am
We’re locavores who enjoyed a pork roast (neighbour’s pig) rubbed with a dry marinade of herbs (from our garden) and flambéed with Armagnac. We roasted our own potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, and carrots in the same pan. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with homemade fudge sauce and (for my husband) his Christmas port. Simple, local, fresh, delicious. Happy New Year!
December 29th, 2010 at 7:45 am
We did a simple beef and vegetable stew served in bread bowls with salad and a mixed berry pie this year – I think it was my favorite Christmas dinner so far!
December 29th, 2010 at 9:12 am
For the most scrumptious food I ate this holiday season, I would have to say it was a tie between my Roasted Cornish Game Hens with Port-Cranberry Sauce and my husband’s side dish of Creamed Spinach. They were bot delicious and pretty easy to make.
