What are your tried and true favorite recipes that you plan to make this holiday?
I haven’t been providing you with many new recipes of late. That is not representative of how much cooking and baking has been happening in the Whipped kitchen. We are prepping for our first holiday at home in years. We are hosting a number of guests over the coming weeks so we have been making lists and checking them twice to ensure that no belly is left hungry!
So, why no new recipes? We are sticking with tradition and tried and true favorites. If you need some ideas for your holiday meal planning, here is a list of some of the things that we will be enjoying:
Christmas Eve Lunch:
Growing up, we spent every Christmas Eve at a German restaurant called The Schnitzelbank. It has since closed. We are reviving our German tradition and visiting the Chicago Brauhaus for some schnitzel, bratwurst and accordion music. They are only open for lunch so we will stay home for a lighter dinner. That will give us plenty of time to get the kids to bed and make arrangements for a visit from Santa!
Christmas Eve Dinner:
Choice of soups: Chicken Corn Chowder or Navy Bean Soup
Rolls and Butter
Christmas Day Brunch:
Breakfast Strata (probably with thick cut bacon & gruyere this time)
Fresh Fruit
Coffee
Christmas Dinner:
Prime Rib with Horseradish Sauce
Tomato Bread Pudding
Green Veggie (whatever looks best at the store)
Choice of Desserts:
Chocolate Buche de Noel or Cherry Pie
Other Sweet Treats to Have on Hand:
Kourabiethes – Greek Butter Cookies (pictured above)
