Welcome

I’m Caroline

I live in Chicago and juggle life as an entrepreneur, blogger, and mother who loves to eat, drink, and be merry. Whipped began in 2007 as a playful experiment—and a reason to splurge on a fancy camera. What keeps me writing? The way Whipped the Blog has reconnected me with old friends, introduced me to new ones, sharpened my cooking and baking skills, cheered me up on tough days, and opened doors I hadn’t expected.

Why So Much Greek Food from a Midwestern Ginger?

In my senior year of college, I traveled to Egypt for a two-week student conference. There, I met a handsome half-Dutch, half-Greek guy. What started as a whirlwind romance became a long-distance adventure—and eventually, a very happy marriage.

Almost every year, we visit his family in the Netherlands or Greece. Along the way, I’ve fallen in love with Greek food, learned to cook many of his family’s favorite dishes, and have created a few Greek-inspired recipes of my own. The Mediterranean way of lingering at the table—sharing food, drinks, and conversation—is one of my favorite traditions.

SPECIAL DIETS

Recipes for Whole30, Paleo, Gluten-fee, Dairy-free,Vegan, & Vegetarian Diets

I love to bake, indulge in treats, and craft delicious cocktails. But, I overall cook with whole ingredients and healthy, fresh foods. For a year, my daughter had to eat gluten-free for health reasons so I learned a lot about cooking gluten-free recipes. A few of my dear friends have dietary restrictions and I like to accommodate them when I cook. Recently, I went through a round of Whole 30 to identify some of my own digestive issues and have made it a point to teach myself more about vegan cooking. So, I have included categories for special diets and have offered tips when I can about how to adjust recipes.

I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or health expert. Please read recipes closely and be sure to adjust ingredients, or find compliant ingredients as needed. If I’ve categorized something on Whipped the Blog mistakenly, I’d love to know! Please contact me.

Product Reviews & Giveaways

Whipped the Blog has never been my main source of income, so you won’t find a lot of advertising here. Over the years, I’ve received free products and event invitations in exchange for potential coverage, and I’ve partnered with a few brands on paid collaborations.

One thing I promise: I only share my genuine opinions. I don’t promote products I don’t believe in, and every review is honest. Recently, I added some affiliate links with the simple goal of covering hosting fees and the basic costs of keeping this blog up and running.

ISN’T THIS A FOOD BLOG?

Why I Write About Grief & Loss

I’ve been writing on Whipped the Blog for over 15 years. While it began as a food blog, I have shared many of life’s biggest moments—from raising kids to starting businesses. In 2016, my brother died. My family chose to be open about his mental health and suicide, and in sharing my own grief, I discovered that many people were surprised—and often comforted—by my candor about such difficult topics.

I write honestly about my experiences to connect with others. My hope is that my reflections resonate with people and invite conversations that deepen my own perspectives.
